Writer Call: Looking for Your Love Stories

By Jackelyn Ho

I love love. In fact, when I was growing up, all I would do is journal about my life in the form of short love stories. I wrote about every single traumatic love failure in my teenage life (it’s not as traumatic looking back on it). I was obsessed with illustrating my feelings in the form of melodic words because it validated my feelings and made me feel in control of the situation. When I had a pen in my hand and a paper on my desk, I was in absolute control of the story I had played a part in. The other reason that I love love is that it’s one of the most passionate journeys human beings experience. Falling in love, being in love, and falling out of love are all strong emotions that our hearts explore, and sometimes we explore all of those feelings with one person. How is that even possible? How can you go from being madly in love with someone one second and then absolute hate their guts the next? I have no idea, but it’s interesting to think about. Anyway, human relationships have always fascinated me and I find that when people journal their experiences in love, they better understand how the rest of the relationship could unfold. I digress. I have so many little stories to share with you all, but in return, I’d love to hear your stories. What kind of things have you experienced? They don’t have to be big or intense or even happy ending stories — I’m looking for the little things, too. I’m interested in hearing your internal monologue of what happened when your partner first said, “I love you”, or what happened the day after you broke up. I want to know what it feels like to wake up every morning knowing that someone is thinking about you, or how it feels now that you’re on your own again. Oh, and they don’t have to even be romantic love stories. They can be about family, too. I’m just curious. I want to know about your journey. If you have any personal essays or stories you want to share, please contact me. Include the story as if it would be published and I’ll e-mail you back as soon as I can. In the meantime, stay tuned for one of my love snippets.
